Why You Should Scroll LinkedIn instead of Instagram

One motivates you with real life story and one depressed you by Reel life story.

One day, I picked up my mobile intending to scroll through Instagram for just 5 minutes. However, I soon realised that 25 minutes had passed. During that time, all my urgent emails and work had been left unattended. What was supposed to be a brief relaxation, but it turned into a source of frustration as my mood fluctuated due to multiple short reels.

I felt demotivated and found myself tempted to continue scrolling through Instagram.

On another day, I picked up my mobile for a quick 5-minute scroll through LinkedIn. However, I quickly grew bored and instead found myself learning a lot in just 2.5 minutes. I promptly closed the app and returned to work, feeling influenced and inspired by what I had discovered.

Weird, right? Why was I motivated and inspired? Because on LinkedIn, I am connected with truly successful people, genuine teachers, real-life motivators, and authentic hustlers — individuals who didn’t work hard for just 3 years, but for 15 to 30 years, , still persevering in their endeavours.

We cannot change what we are not aware of, and once we are aware, we cannot help but change. — Sheryl Sandberg

Always remember, “You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.”

If you follow cringe followers on Instagram, you will become one of them.

If you follow CEOs on LinkedIn, you will eventually become one yourself in the coming years. I know these are big words, but try this consistently for years, make it a habit, and you will see the transformation.

Why? Because, as Darren Hardy mentioned in “The Compound Effect,” everything compounds. By surrounding yourself with successful individuals and adopting their habits, you’ll start applying effective habits in your own life, leading to significant growth and success over time. Back to our main question.

Why you should scroll LinkedIn instead of Instagram?

Scrolling LinkedIn can automatically help you stay away from your phone, as we saw in my example, which is true.

There’s the good algorithm and the bad algorithm.

Endless Scroll versus Limited Scroll.

A useful network versus a useless network.

One attracts you to a serious, proper success-oriented life, while the other attracts you to useless stuff.

One motivates you with real-life stories, while the other depresses you with reel-life stories.

Yeah, I know. One can’t live without a smartphone in this age. Just like thousands of years ago, one couldn’t live without an axe. However, one has to learn how to use the current-age weapon, then and now.

I’m not saying Instagram is not useful, but it’s not inherently designed to prioritise benefits. The reels are structured in a way that often leads to cringe and adult content.

Search for your “dancers” influencers. You’ll likely find them on Instagram, but if they’re on LinkedIn, compare their content there with their Instagram profiles.

On LinkedIn, you’ve got to keep it real. Unlike Instagram, where it’s all about showing off, on LinkedIn, you’ve got to back up what you say with proof. It’s more about being genuine and making real connections, not just flaunting for the ‘gram.

LinkedIn can contribute to your financial growth, whether you’re in business or employed. It caters to various professional endeavours.

Again, I’m not saying you can’t do business on Instagram, but it’s designed to be distracting. Just take 30 seconds and think about how many times you’ve been sidetracked by Instagram while trying to focus on something urgent or important, pause here and think.

See? It happens a lot, right? It was the same for me until two years ago when I completely uninstalled Instagram. Now, I use Instagram rather than letting it use me. I only use it when I need to catch up on the latest memes for some fun. Anyway, I’m thinking of giving that up too because I’m watching Tanmay Bhat’s meme review, so I’m already synced up with the latest memes and info.

Solution

You will never change your life until you change something you do daily. The secret of your success is found in your daily routine. ― Darren Hardy

Now, the big question is: how to get rid of it? You see, one can’t live without a smartphone, without access to information, without the latest humour. Look for apps that can replace it. Set a timetable. Make sure you are using your phone, and your phone is not using you. (Always ask yourself, “How can I use my phone instead of being used by it?”). Monitor you screen time. See, how much your spending time on YouTube shorts and Instagram Reels. How much information you are gaining. How much you are applying in your life.

Don’t wish it were easier; wish you were better. ― Darren Hardy

Keep patience, good things take time. Keep consistency and surely you will see the change.

Use smart things to be smart, not a fool.
