Permission and Wish

First Story of Eklavya

When Dronacharya met Eklavya, he asked him to introduce himself and reveal the name of his Guru. Eklavya said that he was the son of Hiranyadhanus, who belonged to the Nishadha tribal clan. And when Dronacharya asked him about his Guru, Eklavya said he had learned his lessons from him. He also showed him a mud sculpture with Dronacharya’s prints on it. He explained that he took the statute’s consent and learned the lessons by observing him.

As Eklavya had learned lessons from him, so Dronacharya asked him to give him Guru Dakshina. So, he asked Eklavya to donate his thumb. And Eklavya did not think twice before cutting it off.

But why did Dronacharya do so?

Dronacharya was appointed to teach only Kuru dynasty children. And teaching anyone else except the Kuru family members was against protocol. Moreover, Eklavya learned the lessons without Dronacharya’s consent. And this was against learning principles.

Dronacharya, thus asked Eklavya for his thumb, since without it he could not aim the arrow.

Second Story of Draupadi

After hitting the fish’s eyes in Draupadi’s swayamvar. Arjuna along with his brothers walk towards the hut where Mother Kunti is waiting for them. As soon as they reach the hut, Arjuna calls his mother in delight and says, “Look what we have got as bhiksha”. Mata Kunti who is praying at that moment. Without looking at him, announces whatever you got distribute amongst the five brothers. But, when Kunti realizes that it is not food but a bride. She gets tense to have said those words. As a custom, the Pandavas will now have to obey her word. This means Draupadi had to marry not Arjuna, but the rest of the four brothers as well.

At this point, Kunti becomes sorrowful, but Lord Krishna appears at that spot and consoles her. Following this, Draupadi has the aashirwaad of Lord Shiva that she would marry 5 men in her next life. Each man had one of the qualities she wanted. Making it very clear that it was Draupadi’s destiny to marry 5 men and not Kunti’s fault.

What I learned from 1st story

Asking For Permission Shows Respect And Guarantees An Interested Audience. — Jerry Alocca

Whenever we learn or do important things without consent, we suffer consequences like Eklavya. In some instances, the consequences may occur immediately, while in others they may occur after 1,2,3,10 years. Although Ekalvya was better than Arjun, he gets no archery for a lifetime because he didn’t take permission from the guru.

The story happened thousands of years ago. Permission (consent) is still there in many things, in the king’s eras, and in democracy.

A student can only study in a university or school if he or she has been granted permission. School fees aren’t tuition fees; they’re permission fees to study.

The YouTube copyright consent law is already well known to you. YouTube may suspend or block you if you upload someone else’s video without their consent. Permission and the consequences are still there.

Visas are required to enter any country, and without them, you’re a criminal and will get a lifetime ban or go to jail. It is one of the most important things humans have, a permit is one of them. Permission defines boundaries. Games without rules and boundaries are not games. We shouldn’t play with things that are too old, like 5000 years old.

What I learned from 2nd Story

Rather than wishing for change, you first must be prepared to change. — Catherine Pulsifer

Lord Krishna said that Draupadi’s destiny was to marry five men because she wished and prayed to Lord Shiva. I learned from this, whatever you want, wish sincerely, wish for you to have plans and you really want, wish for you to be able to handle it.

Suppose you would like to own a Rolls Royce, but your income isn’t enough to afford even its maintenance. Somehow, you got a gift from a friend or relative (please let me know if any 😅😅). Now that you have a Rolls Royce, who will pay for its maintenance?

As another example, you pray for a high score to get into a high college and you get it without doing anything hard. If you achieve good marks and enough merit for a computer science degree, you get admitted to a reputable university. You survive for 4 years, but how will you make a living? For example, if your logic is weak and you don’t have programming knowledge, how will you survive at work?

Be careful before you wish anything – Morgan Housel, Author of Same As Ever.

So, wish for things you really want.
